13.1Static effects and auras
- 13.1.1
A Static Effect applies for as long as its card is active and its condition ("while …", "as long as …") is met, and stops the moment either is no longer true.
- 13.1.2
An Aura is a Static Effect that gives something to other cards ("Your other Souls gain …"). What it gives ends as soon as the giving card is no longer active or is negated.
- 13.1.3
A Static Effect that gives to "your Souls" reaches Souls only, not Realms.
13.2Granted effects
- 13.2.1
An effect or keyword granted to a card works as if it were printed on that card.
- 13.2.2
For Unyielding, a granted effect counts as coming from the card that grants it, with that card's rank.
ExampleThe Defiance that Harold (rank 1) grants counts as a rank-1 effect, even on a rank-3 Soul. An Unyielding attacker of rank 1 or higher takes no damage from it.
13.3Durations
- 13.3.1
"This Turn" lasts until the end of the current turn. "Until the end of your Opponent's next Turn" lasts until the end of the first turn of the opponent that begins after the effect; used in your own turn, that is the next turn.
- 13.3.2
"Permanently" lasts as long as the card stays on the field: a bonus is lost when the card leaves it (15.5.1).
- 13.3.3
An effect that is laid on a Soul Spot ("any Soul on the targeted Spot gains …") belongs to the slot. Every Soul on that slot has it for as long as it stays there, even one that arrives later, until the duration ends.
- 13.3.4
Two such effects on one slot run side by side; the one that ends later decides how long the slot is affected.
13.4Stacking
- 13.4.1
The same effect twice applies twice. Two bonuses of +5 DEF give +10; a Soul with Defiance twice deals its damage twice.
- 13.4.2
Keywords that grant an ability rather than a number do not stack: two Range, two Precision or two Unyielding are the same as one, and two Dual Wielding still allow two attacks.
13.5Negation
- 13.5.1
A negated effect on the Cascade does not resolve and costs nothing.
- 13.5.2
An effect that negates other cards' effects while it applies stops them for as long as it does. When two such effects contradict each other, the newer one wins, and a card whose effects are negated negates nothing itself.
- 13.5.3
An effect of a Soul on the Cascade can't be negated by an effect the Soul is Unyielding against (13.6.5).
13.6Unyielding
- 13.6.1
An Unyielding Soul is unaffected by its opponent's Targeting, Static and Instant Effects, as long as the effect's source has the Soul's rank or a lower one.
- 13.6.2
Targeting: such an effect can't target the Soul, nor a Soul Spot whose target names the Soul on it (11.4.5). If the Soul becomes Unyielding after it was targeted, the effect does nothing to it when it resolves.
- 13.6.3
Rank: compare the rank of the effect's source with the Unyielding Soul's rank. For an Event or an Ambush, the source is the Event or Ambush; for a granted effect, the card that grants it (13.2.2).
ExampleNoah (rank 2) can't be targeted by Chrome Chains (rank 0) or Cyber-Wormhole (rank 2), but Mystic Wormhole (rank 3) reaches him.
- 13.6.4
- 13.6.5
Negation: an effect of the Unyielding Soul on the Cascade can't be negated by an opposing effect of a rank up to the Soul's.
- 13.6.6
Instant: opposing Instant Effects of a rank up to the Soul's, such as Defiance, do nothing to it.
- 13.6.7
Unyielding does not protect against:
- its own controller's effects;
- battle damage, which is not an effect;
- opposing effects that neither target it nor are Static or Instant, such as an Event that acts on every opposing Soul without targeting;
- an effect laid on its Soul Spot without naming the Soul (Baltic Blizzard);
- effects whose source has a higher rank than the Soul.
